Our Home colors -Updated-

The first time I ever painted something other than a piece of paper was our kitchen cabinets in our old rental home over 10 years ago. I know! One of your very first projects should be a wall, but I was so tired of seeing those old and dingy white cabinets that I had to do something about it, even if this was my first-ever paint job. When you don't know how to do something, what do you do? You go to YouTube and learn. It's funny to think that something that comes so naturally to me nowadays was so intimidating back then. So, if you feel this way now about grabbing a roller and painting a wall on your own, I get it.

What color did I paint those kitchen cabinets? Gray! Surprise, right?

My taste in color has evolved into something else, but it took me some time to understand my style and embrace it. I love trying new colors and I'm fascinated by the plethora of options out there. And now I'm running out of walls to paint in our home! There are so many gorgeous colors and different shades of blues, greens, yellows, and reds. Honestly, why do we always see the same shade of green? Why don’t we try something else? I feel like we should trust our eyes and personal taste more when we love a color from a paint swatch and forget about what certain designers or influencers are doing, and just explore what we like because we like it.

I also know picking colors isn't easy for everyone, and there are many factors to consider when choosing a paint color for a space: undertones, the room's orientation, natural light, and more. I think that's a topic for a future post because I'm still learning so much about it myself.

Primary bedroom

Walls are Grayish by Clare in their eggshell finish. Love their paint formulas for bedrooms, they go super smooth and they are zero VOC and almost completely odorless.

Hall Bathroom

Cabinets are California Hills by Benjamin Moore and walls are Swiss Coffee by BEHR.

I love painting unexpected spaces like inside closets and cabinets. I chose Alaea by Sherwin Williams for inside this linen closet, I love how it looks with the yellow cabinets.

Dining room

For the dining room I kept the walls Pure White and for the trim Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams.

Study/Guest bedroom

Our study serves two functions, our office day to day and a guest bedroom when we need it. The built-ins and trim are painted Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball.

Entryway

Our entryway ceiling and trim is painted Accessible Beige by Sherwin Williams.

Family room/Multi purpose room

I’ve tried more than 1 color in the past four years -you can see the previous color in this post-. It all started with Pure White SW, then transitioned to a blue, followed by Evergreen Fog SW, and later Macadamia SW. I admit, it's been quite the colorful journey. However, I finally settled on a creamier white and instantly fell for Swiss Coffee by Behr for this space. The challenge lay in finding a color that complemented the room's unique characteristics - particularly its lack of windows and the bluish natural light that floods in from the adjacent room, courtesy of the pool. Proof that sometimes it takes more tries to land to the perfect color for a space, I admit it wasn’t fun to repaint the room multiple times.

When the walls were Macadamia by SW

You can see how the room looked with the color Evergreen Fog in this post.

Cabinet colors, London Clay and Oval Room Blue, both by Farrow and Ball.

This room is currently Pure white SW but I am painting it Swiss coffee Behr, the same color as our family room. Trim color is Accessible Beige SW.

Kitchen

Finding the prettiest warm green for our kitchen was easy. Three years later and we still love Sage Green Light by SW for our cabinets.

Not changing this color ever! When I shared I was painting our kitchen island a shade of red, I got a few comments about how our kitchen will have Christmas themed colors, funny, I don’t see it. Glad I didn’t listen.

Love Preference Red by F&B

The view from our kitchen to the family room and a glimpse of the bonus room.

Pantry

For our pantry I wanted a shade of mustard yellow, and then I found this beautiful color called Good as gold by Clare, its a beautiful mustard yellow, darker and richer and full of personality. Fun and unexpected for our pantry under the stairs.

Ella’s bedroom

Our daughter Ella’s room has been evolving over the years and growing with her. She loves green and purple, so the latest addition was painting her closet a shade of purple, and to match we added new bedding. Loving this color combo.

Walls and trim are Mizzle by Farrow and Ball and her closet is Beguiling Mauve by Sherwin Williams.

I need to update this view, of course it doesn’t look this empty in real life :)

Our boys bedroom

Our boys room all decorated for Christmas. I need to work on updated pictures.

Laundry space and Guest bathroom

Things haven’t change much in here, yet. But big changes are coming and here is the moldboard. As you can see I can’t make up my mind and loved so many beautiful color options for the cabinet but so far I think the chocolate brown is winning. I will keep you all updated on this. And as you know, one thing leads to the other and literally this laundrroom leads to the guest bathroom so, naturally, I will give that tiny space a fresh coat of paint that is highly needed because apparently I did a terrible job the last time I painted those walls and the paint is now peeling off, my kids are doing a beautiful job at making sure the ‘paint peeling’ is quite artistic.

The other two spaces that I am not adding to this list are our powder bathroom which is the room right next to the laundry space, and our primary bathroom. Those two are on my list of rooms that need work. Since we are going our laundry space right now I might give our powder room a quick update with a ‘very needed’ fresh coat of paint and maybe swap a few things like the mirror and light fixture. I am still deciding on colors so I will update this post once I have all the colors figure out.

Our primary bathroom needs a full renovation, it’s one of the spaces that we haven’t renovated yet and it’s still stuck in the 80’s. When we moved in I did a quick and inexpensive ‘bandaid makeover’ on the space, and ever since its remain the same. We would love to renovate it as soon as we are financially ready to tackle a big project like that. For now, I am just day dreaming on finishes and overall design for the space. Good things take time and Home takes time.
