Phase 1 kids bathroom renovation
I have a plan! like always, I just decided last minute to do a phase 1 bathroom renovation in our kids bathroom starting this month.
At first, I was contemplating just doing a bandaid renovation in the space, but after lots of thinking about it I feel like it will be best if we do this bathroom renovation in stages instead of a bandaid renovation or pursuing the renovation as a whole. We are working with a tight budget so we feel like it makes more sense for our wallet doing this in stages.
The plan for this bathroom renovation since the beginning was to work with its current layout and instead of doing a complete gut job, make the most of it and try to use what it is there and focus on updating finishes like countertops, hardware, painting cabinets, changing floors and so on.
Here is how this space looks now, no styling no staging, just plain old glorious 70’s swag.
Linoleum floors, coriander countertops, large mirror and outdated fixtures. Also we have like 100 towel racks if you have noticed :)
Now, this is the plan and exciting stuff. I can already see it all in my head and I feel this will be sooo good!
You know I love mixing patterns and this bathroom couldn’t be the exception. I want this space to be whimsy for the kids but a space that doesn’t feel too childish and that can grow with them. This wallpaper from Hygge & West was my center point for the whole design plan.
For this phase 1 we are,
Changing the countertops to quartz and adding an additional sink for a total of two, we want the space to function much better for our three kids. We are also changing the faucets to some pretty polished nickel ones. New paint on the cabinets and new cabinet hardware, new light fixtures above the sinks and two cute arch mirrors that I am hoping can come back in stock -my bad for not getting those sooner-.
And yes, we are going to be doing it all ourselves, so buckle up for the ride!
We won’t touch the bathtub and shower area at this time but I do plan on removing the glass doors and repack them with this shower curtain.
The “bandaid renovation” will be to the floors, we want to eventually rip the linoleum and install tile, but it is not in our budget right now and we also don’t want to deal with a big renovation at this time. We will do the floors and tub/shower on phase 2. In the meantime, I am planning on adding this peel stick tile, love the pattern! I am thinking on something similar for the future real tile.
So those are the plans for now, what do you think?
