Dining room design + sources
We started working on this space as soon as we got the keys to our new house. First thing we did was to remove the stained blue carpet that was covering all the floors in the dinning room and living room but that left us with bare subfloors for a while.
We spent what it felt like endless hours to remove the wallpaper from all the walls, removing wallpaper made the space look horrible! at that point I started questioning EVERYTHING, what the heck we were doing! there was SO MUCH sticky paper to clean up.
After removing wallpaper we repaired the walls where needed and we gave the whole house a fresh coat of paint in the color Pure white by Sherwin Williams, a beautiful white paint color that looks great at all times of the day.
Flooring was one of the things that made the biggest impact to this area of our home, we went with European white oak floors from Monarch Plank from their collection Lago in the color Devero. The day these floors went in was such a treat, after living with bare subfloors for almost 2 months, having clean floors was the best day!
After all of those projects I was stuck with inspiration for this room and since the rest of the house was still a hot mess we focused our attention on all the other spaces that needed work and I put a pause on finishing our dining room.
Over the course of almost 2 years I collected pieces of furniture for our dining room. First one I found was the beautiful vintage dining table, can you believe we paid $40 for it on Facebook marketplace? It is a very special antique table, we are not certain how old it is but according to the seller it might be around 100 years old. I love the legs with those little casters!
At the end of last year I found that beautiful oversized tapestry from Anthropologie and I knew it would be perfect in the dining room to bring some color in there. As you know I love color and if I could I would add wainscoting and paint evry wall in our home a different accent color, but the way this dinind room flows into the living room and entryway, an accent color was not the right option without painting all the other spaces, basically painting the whole main floor. So we opted for an accent Trim color that adds a little more character to this space. I still think some box molding could be pretty in here but that might happen -or not- in the future.
Then the mirror, the mirror of my dreams, It is not only a piece of art but it bounces light so beautifully. My favorite view in the room is from the archway in the kitchen, the reflection of the art and pendant in the mirror is so pretty.
That gorgeous black cabinet is my favorite find EVER! we found it antiquing last month and I knew I had to bring it home with me. It fits like a glove in the space and it looks almost like a built in. It also defines the dinning room from the living room so perfectly.
Since we already had a vintage table I wanted to bring a timeless but a bit more modern silhouette into the space, Those black oak chairs are exactly what this room needed to bring it all together.
I am so happy with how this room came together and I know it will keep evolving over time, for now we enjoy it as it is and appreciate how far it has come over the course of 2 years.
Thank you for reading!
