Choose a color story.
Either colorful, traditional red and green or neutral, all colors are good for Christmas. Choose a color story for your Christmas decorations as your starting point. These colorful woolen stockings with out kids name were inspired the colors for the rest of the christmas decorations.
2. Use twinkle lights
Twinkle lights add the touch of magic to everything. I added a couple of different twinkle lights sets on a couple of this preserved Boxwood garland for a layered look.
If you can't light a fire in your fireplace, add some twinkle light over firewood logs for a warm and cozy glow.
3. Vary height and texture.
The key when decorating shelves is varying heights and textures. Create different heights with elements in different sizes. Use books, candles, stacked bowls and potted plants or greenery in a vase.
Use different materials like ceramic, clay, glass for different textures. These items all together will add dimension to your shelves and make them interesting to look at.
4. Add special items and family heirlooms.
Make them personal, your shelves and fireplace mantle should reflect your own family’s essence. I love to add special pieces that can tell a story. Personalized stocking, vintage items or family heirlooms for one of a kind looks. Incorporate your own traditions to make your shelves and mantle special.
